The 2023 Wojcik Invitational descended on Butler, Pennsylvania to the Aubrey Dubbs Dred Golf Course. The invitational kicked off on Saturday, July 22nd with a 09:00AM start. Leading off the Invitational with the "ceremonial opening drive" was Senior Pro, with a historical three Aces to his name, Ken Wojcik. He destroyed the ball off the tee and was immediately questioned for juicing, and was allowed to continue on. The '23 Invitational brought the debut of Parker and David Riley. Also returning to the Invitational '22 3rd Place Finalist, Alexander Wojcik would also be joining Ken, Parker, and David with the opening foursome. David fell victim to injury after two holes and finished out chauffeuring the remainder of the round. Parker recorded 4 pars and 2 birdies ending the day with a total of 92 and becoming the 2023 Wojcik Invitational Champion. Alexander would record 3 pars and finish out the day with a total of 95. Ken would record 2 pars and end with a total of 99.
Second foursome was lead by the reigning and defending Invitational Champion and newly turned 35 year old Zac Wojcik, along with Ben Wojcik, Ray Wojcik, and '22 2nd Place Finalist, Paul Wojcik. Ben drove the green on #7 310 yard Par 4 and would record a par. On #8 a 300 yard Par 4, he would hit the pin on shot 1 leaving a divot on the rim of the cup and end up with a birdy putt to close out #8. Ben recorded 1 birdy and 2 pars and end the Invitational with a total of 101. Zac opened up the foursomes first birdy on #3 while recording a total of 1 birdy and 3 pars and finishing with a total of 96. Paul made 4 pars and ended with a 99 overall. Ray recorded 1 par and ended with a 125 overall.
The third foursome was lead by Senior Pro Greg "Norman" Wojcik who still has clubs for sale. His foursome was comprised of his children Trent, Mitchell, and Adam all returning for another shot at the Wojcik Invitational Championship. Greg would record 1 par but holds the lowest record of balls lost for the day at 1 ending with the day with a 101 overall. Trent would record 1 par and finish with a 104. Mitchell would record two back-to-back birdies on holes 8 & 9 and finish up the day with a 103. Adam the youngest at the Invitational would put up 4 bogeys and finishing out his day with a respectable 108 for this challenging course.
Overall the course claimed an average of 5-6 balls per player with the exception of Greg who walked out only down 1 ball. Route 422 and a house along #4 may have also claimed a ball or two. Greens were super fast in some areas which made for endless entertainment for some.
After party festivities were back at the Wojcik household in Butler. Fried Chicken from Giant Eagle along with mac n cheese, pasta salad, and baked beans were served up. Ice cold beer and soda was on tap. Kids had fun with the water slide, bounce house, frisbees, and plane flyer after being retreived from the room on more than one occassion.
A strawberry shortcake was presented in what more can I say but WOW. Fashion as family gathered to sing the 2022 Champion Happy Birthday. As the sunset on this perfect Wojcik Invitational Day, families gathered to take pictures and are presented below. On behalf of the Wojcik Invitational Committee we thank you for a great year and look forward to seeing everyone at the 2024 Airshow and Invitational in Ohio.
